SEMESTRIAL PROJECT (FIRST YEAR SECOND SEMESTER)
( 01/02/2023 - 06/06/2023 )
What was my role on "ChromAttacK"
Being my first time filling a producer role, and both me and my colleagues still being relatively inexperienced: I did my best to enable all of us to learn from one another (both in terms of prior experiences, and new teachings alike), as well as properly focus on the things that interested us most.
In part, this became possible due to me taking on a multitude of tasks deemed less enticing by my colleagues. The most important of those was game (including level) design, which was very difficult due to the game's dual nature of being both a shoot 'em up and a puzzle/ reaction based game.
I also became the lead programmer for the project. This meant I had to implement a somewhat complex state system (color swapping, and color mixes) in this engine that was previously unknown to me. Thankfully, this was solved with good documentation of my programming logic as well as clever use of online documentation and forum threads.
Wanting to experience more aspects of development, I decided to also put on the mantle of lead artist. As such, I worked to implement clear cut visuals that allowed for perfect readability while also properly communicating enemies' functions and power. And to make them more pleasant to fight: I created and implemented a part break system where they would be torn apart progressively.
WHAT IS "ChromAttacK"?
"ChromAttacK" is a shoot 'em up created by a group of 3 students. The player changes the colors of their ship's cannons to match them to the enemies' colors, which makes them lethal to said enemies.
